Hand Painted Side Table
This side table was begging to be flipped. We sought out a colorful palette for inspo and then got to work mixing the paint we already had to achieve matches to the colors we chose.
Supplies:
Hand sander
Paint, we ended up using paint we already had but pick a paint that is compatible to the material you are painting
Sealant, for this table we used a polyurethane oil based satin sealant
Stain of your choice
Step-by-step:
We started by giving the entire table a sanding, we were able to use our hand sander a majority of the time but did have to get into some areas with some sand paper as well. We focused our sanding efforts at the top of this table as we knew we weren’t going to paint that area and planned to stain.
Next we stained the top so that if there was any mess, we would be able to paint over it and still have clean edges. For this piece we went with a penetrating stain that was semi-transparent as the wood was even and light in coloration after sanding. We went with a warm toned neutral for stain to compliment the bright color palette.
After we stained we mixed our paints to achieve the colors we wan and then proceeded to paint! This is the best step as you really get to see the project come together. We didn’t use any painters tape because of the curves in the stand of the table.
We cleaned up our edges as we went along to ensure a clean end result.
After the paint had settled we chose a spray sealant to make sure all areas could be covered and sealed.
Tips:
-Have a game plan for larger or more time consuming projects to ensure you are being efficient and realistic with your time.
-When mixing colors it can get hard to recreate, so try your best to mix enough for your project the first time to save you time.
