Painting Rain Barrels
Rain barrels are on the rise right now, with many joining in on gardening and landscaping itself!! We had someone reach out to us wanting some of their rain barrels painted and we were so satisfied with the way they turned out! It can be tricky starting a new project on different materials and in a new environment, but we found a few ways to help along the way.
Supplies:
· Spray paint primer
· Spray paint base color
· Your choice of paint ( we chose a variety of acrylic paint)
· Sealant!
Step-by-step:
1. Start with a good wipe down to ensure an even, smooth surface.
2. If the rain barrels are already hooked up, you will want to tarp and tape off areas you want to protect. If not, even better! It is way easier to paint rain barrels off their hook up, less taping off, less mess, and it saves time!
3. Give a decent layer of primer without letting it get too grippy, as the rain barrels are going to be outside.
4. Depending on what background color you choose, you may have to do multiple layers to get an even background. TIP: The lighter background color may mean more spray paint coats but will save you in coats of paint for your pattern or design!
5. Once that fully dries, choose your pattern or design and start with your first layers your art, you will most likely have to do another coat to get a cleaner and more solid end result.
6. You may feel safe with one layer of sealant, but we probably did 2 or 3 lol!
7. Voila!
